Isaac Holmes - Coooommee On Down!

Rutgers recruiting continues to roll as 4-star and #3 ranked player in New Jersey, defensive tackle Isaac Holmes has committed to Rutgers University.  Most people, myself included thought he was going to either Pitt/Maryland, specifically the Terps, so this was a huge get.  Hailing from Hoboken, Holmes is 6-3 and 295lbs and will provide Rutgers a stud defensive tackle for years to come.  As one fan mentioned, try running on Rutgers now with both Holmes and fellow recruit Antwan Lowery (6-4 335lbs).  Although solid (Eric Foster), the Scarlet Knights were way too light in the middle and failed to provide that push up the middle as well as consistently stuff the run. With an improved and larger front line, and faster, more experienced linebackers, our defense should be considerably better.

Huge commit

No one expect Holmes to commit to RU. Most thought he was going to Maryland or Pitt. Between him and Lowery, RU’s D-line is going to be quite a force in the years to come.

Exactly

You’re exactly right, I totally thought he was going to the Terps and then I heard Pitt….but for Rutgers to grab him, its fantastic. We really need to build up that interior line and force teams to run outside…right into our speedy linebackers – abreu, witherspoon, etc.

For those that believe that are keeping track of the psu/rutgers recruiting battle…this one goes to the Scarlet Knights as I know for sure that Penn State wanted Holmes.

Pretty fast too

For an apparently diesel guy, Isaac also claims to run the 40 in 5 seconds flat and have a 29-inch vertical jump, courtesy of scout.com. It’s just what RU D needs… With that combined strength and agility, he’ll definitely be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come…

I'm so glad I found this site yesterday

I use SB Nation for my other sports teams (Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Mavs – Grew up in Dallas/Went to school at Rutgers/reside now in North Jersey) And all these sites are chock full of great conversation and insightful looks at the state of Rutgers. So all, my name is Jared and will be reading this sight constantly. Look forward to dicussing the ascention of Rutgers into BE (if not NC) contention.

BTW Issac Holmes is a beast. Im having a hard tiem discerning which line is gonna be better in 2 years, O or D. What do you guys think?

What time is Justin Brown announcing?

by bone man on Feb 4, 2009 3:11 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Justin Brown – announced earlier today (around 2pm) to attend Penn State….they got a really good one, as I expect JB to produce right away. Physically, he has all of the tools already, although he only had 27 catches last year, so not like he comes from a throwing system.

Jared – great to have you on board…we’re really excited with the direction of this blog and the support from sbnation. Please feel free to give us your feedback, we’re new and want to hear what you have to say.

Cant beat this time of the year…needless to say that i was watching the updates like a hawk…

Thanks Danger

Is there anyway to shout out to the other boards to get them coming over here.. I think the set-up is better and more fan friendly and FREE!!! If you have any ideas, let me know. Im telling all my friends who usually check the other sites.

Even w/o Brown, I think this class is really talented.. Just watching GS at the presser yesterday, He seemed enthralled with these guys not only as athletes, but as people. Do I think we couldve used one more reciever? Sure. Was actually really surprised when GS was asked the same question yesterday he said that he wouldve added one more O-lineman. Either way, Im glad he is on our side and cant wait for the season.

Where does everybody sit at the stadium?

oline or dline

personally, I like the future of our defensive line better….I am really excited about the improvement in our linebackers and I think that will only help our dline.

what do you think?

by JFdanger on Feb 4, 2009 6:21 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

agreed

I think the O-line might be better this year. But for the future the D-line is gonna be a monster.. After hearing everything GS said yesterday, Im psyched.. Holmes and Lowery in the middle with some quick ends and linebackers.. Im getting the chills just thinking about it
