Who will be QB1 in 2009?

I don't claim to know everything about the politics of college football, but I am certainly interested in the way the quarterback situation will shake out in 2009 for our Scarlet Knights.

On one hand, you have experience.  Natale and Lovelace have been in this system for a couple years now, so you have to think that this would be an advantage for one of them getting the nod when the season starts out.  I've been to every game the past two years and I have seen very little of each of these guys.  But what I have seen has not filled me with confidence going forward.  I went to a few games early and was able to see Natale working out in pregame.  While his arm looked decent, his play (in his limited time) left something to be desired.  Jabu, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have the full arsenal at his disposal. (I suppose if you were able to combine the 2 guys like the Six Million Dollar Man, we might have a dangerous weapon on our hands.)

Which brings me to my point.  Would we be better off starting a younger, more athletic prospect this year?  I look at DC Jefferson on the sideline and what I have read about his rocket arm, and think that he must get a look.  But now, with Savage (and Shimko I guess), where do we go from here.  I watch other college football, but concentrate mainly on RU.  How do other teams deal with an influx of talent at the QB position that maybe we have not had in a while, if at all.  From everything I hear Savage is the real deal, but where does that leave everyone else?  It seems to me that bringing a highly touted recruit like DC, redshirting him and then starting Natale or even Savage over him this year will not let us use DC in any way.  Im under the assumption that once Savage is handed the ball, it will be his team for as long as he stays.

So where does that leave us with a physical specimin like DC and two elder QB waiting in the wings with the "Golden Boy" breathing down their necks..

Interested in hearing what the Scarlet Knight fans have to say on the subject..

Don't say anything offensive, no nudity, yada yada yada - you get the point. Don't be bad.

It's going to be interesting...

I just think that Schiano needs to make this an open, even competition. The player that plays the best in the spring and summer practices gets the nod to start. I would LOVE for Savage to have a redshirt year and take over the starting gig in 2010 if we have solid/excellent QB play this year. If we don’t have great QB play at the end of summer practices, then I’m all for letting Savage take the reins. Boo hoo for older guys that lose out on the job, if they’re not good enough they’re not good enough, and they need to work harder so that they are the best candidate for starting. That’s what happens on good teams, the best players play. The players that wilt under pressure aren’t going to be good players anyways. The competitiveness is what makes this falls’ QB battle so intriguing to me.

I like the way you think

But I want to see DC this year. From the high school video to the comments from coaches, this kids got something to bring to this program. I just want to see him get the opportunity to shine, give Savage another year to learn the playbook and have that BE title ready for us for 2010..

Yeah, I'd hope to see DC Jefferson start this year.

good problem to have....

This is a great problem to have…too many solid qb prospects, kinda feels like usc, although they probably have this issue at every position. Anyway, knowing schiano, I believe he is going to go with Natale for the beginning of the season with Jefferson sprinkled in.

The golden boy as you say…will be the fan favorite..everyone loves the backup qb….and everyone loves the superstar recruit. It will be a lot of pressure on everyone to ease the expectations of savage.

As anshey mentioned, best case scenario is that Savage redshirts this year and fights for the starting spot next year. Lets hope we can get some solid play out of Natale/Jefferson, as the fans will be clamoring for Savage.

You may ask why I dont mention Tenaflys finest (my alma mater) Jabu….love the guy, great athlete, but i think unless he shows drastic improvement, then I think he should try to switch to a slash role….

lets just go savage.

Enough is enough...we need Natalya back. I believe in John Beck and that Cbdolphin is the man.

savage

how long before the fans start calling for “savage, savage”….once natale or jefferson throw an INT? If the starter is not Savage, lets just hope they have a strong start and can win the support of the fans.

Natale

I think that it is Natale’s job to lose during the summer. I think that Natale won over some fans last year when he spelled Teel, and showed guts running for a big 4th down against UConn.

Let Savage wait one year and learn the offense. Give Natale the reigns and see what he does….
