Signing Day Reaction and Recap

Rutgers secured it's best recruiting class probably ever, finishing #38 in Rivals (probably too low) and #30 on Scout (probably about right).  Regardless of ranking, Rutgers picked up great players of positions of need, and that is the biggest coup of all.

Greg Schiano said in his press conference that, when he first started in 2000, he was happy to just get any players whatsoever.  Rutgers has come a long ways since then, signing players that were ranked 2, 3 and 4 stars across the board, and competing with some of the big boys (and winning some of those battles too).

He kept chopping...

After a 1-5 start, to pull off a top 30 or 35 class that fulfills every single position of need for the Knights, Schiano can be considered a miracle worker (along with the assist from incoming freshman Tom Savage).

Here's some reaction from around the web:

"The thing I'm most excited about is we're capable of getting into recruiting battles with a better and better level player and person. That's critical, to be able to be more selective. That's going to yield more results down the road." - Head Coach Greg Schiano via ESPN.com

Big East Signing Day Breakdown

With a schedule that lines up perfectly, a recruiting class littered with talented players (some of which can play right away), and coming off a stellar end to the '08 season, Schiano should have his troops lined up for a Big East title and a BCS bid.  After 9 seasons at Rutgers, one can dream, right?

Good Write-Up anshey

I am more than satisfied with this haul. With the quality of the players both on and off the field, paired with the coaches we have (McNulty, JB for strength and “The Boss”) we should be right there for a big east title this year. In the BE, its all about defensive pressure and a consistant offense. If we get some good play from the QB, our running game and revamped D should prove to be a force to be reckoned with.

Well-Rounded Class

I love this recruiting class, it seems like Rutgers got everything it wanted/needed (Justin Brown aside), and added much speed to the defensive side of the ball. Without the strong finish to the season, I’m not sure if we get Holmes or Glaud, so credit Schiano and the rest of the team for putting their collective noses to the grind and getting the job done.

I’m excited to see how things play out with this class…..
