Ladies' Night
After beating VCU, the Lady Knights look to make a run to the Sweet 16...
4 days, 48 games, numerous shining moments among teams and individuals, and several hangovers later, the best weekend in sports has come to an end. In an NCAA tournament where chalk was the word, we saw the top seeds pushed to the brink and barely escape, and thrilling games under the Friday Night Lights (Cleveland State, Wisconsin, Siena).
With the men's tournament idle until Thursday, the women's tournament takes the main stage over the next two nights. The women's tournament usually has more stability and less upsets (due to the strength of the top teams), but this year, things have become a little more topsy-turvy. #5 seed Tennessee is out in the first round for the first time EVER (Rutgers fans rejoice!!!!), while #6 seed Texas was upset as well.
Rutgers avoided the upset bug with it's 57-51 victory over #10 seed VCU on Saturday. The Lady Knights were led by Epiphany Prince's double-double (26 and 11) on their homecourt, and now look to score an upset of their own against #2 seed Auburn. Auburn looked impressive in their first round rout of #15 Lehigh. For the Knights to have any chance they need to stop (or at least slow down) SEC Player of the Year Dewanna Bonner who went for 26 points in the first round victory.
The game will tip-off tonight in Piscataway at 7:00 and will be televised on ESPN2.
