Sweeter Than Yoo-Hoo

RU is 2 games away from another Final 4 appearance!!

Make it 5 in a row for the Lady Knights of Rutgers!

Rutgers dominated #2 seed Auburn from the onset and for the 5th straight season Rutgers will advance to at least the Sweet 16 of the Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Rutgers took full advantage of it's home-court advantage jumping on the SEC Champs with a 9-0 blitz to open the game, and eventually opened it to 22-4 a little over 8 minutes into the game.  Rutgers took a 15 point lead into the half, and the Auburn run that everyone expected came early as the Tigers cut the lead to 10 with 15:29 left, but from there it was all Rutgers, using a 12-2 run to basically put the game away, cruising to an 80-52 victory.

Rutgers was terrific on both sides of the ball, holding Auburn to only 27.8% from the field, while shooting 53.7% themselves.  The Knights were led by Epiphanny Prince who had another terrific game, recording 28 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.  The Knights had 3 other starters score in double figures as Kia Vaughn, Heather Zurich, and Brittany Ray scored 15, 12, and 12 respectively.

This is a tremendous accomplishment for the Knights, especially for C. Vivian Stringer.  I really don't believe that she gets enough credit for the job that she has done in her career and this season in particular.  This team struggled mightily at times this season, but showed resilency and heart to come together at the right time.  Rutgers is playing so well right now that a trip to the Final Four doesn't seem out of the question at all.

Rutgers moves onward to the Sweet Sixteen to play #6 seed Purdue who upset #3 UNC just minutes after Rutgers pulled the upset of their own.  The game will be played next Sunday in Oklahoma City, the tip-off time will be announced later.
