Davis spurned the Buckeyes for his chance to play On The Banks...

If you've been paying attention to the NFL draft at all over the last few years, you'll notice a growing trend about the those guys who play in the trenches.  Often unheralded and underappreciated, offensive linemen are becoming hot commodities among NFL teams, especially among the top picks in the NFL draft.

ESPN's Brain Bennett profiles RU's own NFL caliber offensive lineman, Anthony Davis.  Davis has been fantastic from his first start at the college level, and will always be well revered on the Banks for choosing Rutgers over Ohio State in a last minute decision.  Davis leads a unit that should be one of the best in the Big East in opening holes for the running game.  We'll undoubtedly be watching him on Sundays sometime soon (but hopefully for RU, not after this year).

Completely agreed that we’re lucky to watch Davis week-to-week … as funny as it sounds, it’s great to to take him for granted just as often. It’s tough for the layman (myself included) to notice that one huge block that springs someone like Martinek for 12 yards, but Davis does it consistently. In a unit featuring a new QB and entire WR corps, the entire offense could rely on the OL for consistency.

I’m a huge Britt guy, but Davis will be the initial 1st Round draft pick in school history. Granted, for every Orlando Pace there’s a Robert Gallery, but Davis is the real deal.

1st Round

As much as I’d like to see it, I don’t see Britt going in the 1st round this draft, there’s just too much talent in this WR class. That being said, barring injury, I agree that AD will be RU’s first 1st round draft pick. RU’s starting to fill up the rosters of those NFL teams, though we’ll never be the Miami’s or USC’s of the world.

Yeah, I don’t see Davis as a Top-5 guy or anything, but I could see him getting drafted at something like 18, 22 or 25. I’m not exactly Mel Kiper, and it comes down to team needs, but it’s tough for most teams to turn down stud tackles when they’re on the table come draft day.
