Kenny Britt the Next Buress???

Kenny Britt even plays defense.....

That's what the New York Daily News thinks.  Though recognizing his immense talents and physical gifts, Ebeneezer Samuel writes that Britt might be the same on-field/off-field distraction that Plaxico Burress had beome:

But Britt doesn't care about his stats, or so he tells you. He says he'd trade his Big East career receiving yards mark - the one that Cardinals' Larry Fitzgerald owned until last fall - for a national championship. "It's all about the team," he says, moments after rattling off his Rookie of the Year plan.

And he readily admits he barely follows football. When he arrived at a speed training facility in Arizona early this year and met Darrius Heyward-Bey - the Maryland receiver expected to be a first-round pick - he had never heard of him.

But what he does have is a firm grasp of the NFL's salary structure.

"It doesn't matter, first-round money, second-round," he says, a glint in his eye. "The money's in the second contract."

If you loved Plaxico Burress' antics, get ready to fall in love all over again.

Like Britt, I myself, am very confused.  I'm not sure when Britt got such a bad rap.  Yes, he was suspended for one game for an undisclosed team violation, but look around college football and you see numerous other players suspended on a weekly basis.  I remember a few weeks ago when everyone was so high on AJ Price after he redeemed himself and led UConn to the Final Four (while everyone failed to metion that he is a theif; and yes I understand that he did overcome a serious illness, but that doesn't change the facts).  Britt has never shied away from a hit over the middle, he's always held his blocks until the play was dead, and from what I've seen he's done anything he could ever possibly to do to help his team win.  The guy has big dreams for what he can achieve in the NFL, and wants to make the money he deserves.  So what?

Any team that passes on him because they believe he has too many character issues is making a big mistake.

I agree

I met the kid, and watched him practice at a coaching clinic last April. Seems to have a great work ethic, him and Underwood would compete in everything and he had nothing but respect to all of the coaches for Rutgers and watching practice.
I do not know where Todd Mcshay says hes a prima adona, I don’t see it or agree at all.

Follow-up

Here’s a piece written today from NJO’s Tom Luicci regarding the same issue:

As I said in the thread about Britt on Big Blue View...

these “character issues” are tremendously blown out of proportion.

Giants

How do the Giants fans feel about Britt? Do they feel like he is worth the late first round pick?
