Week-Ending Links Round-Up
It's not always easy being the Scarlet Knight....
Lots of Rutgers related material floating around the web, so let's take a quick look at what's going on:
From NJO.com
- Former Rutgers DE Jamaal Westerman is impressing in his new position with the New York Jets, write David Hutchinson.
- It was Rutgers vs. Rutgers at Titans rookie camp on Friday as Head Coach Jeff fisher pitted WR Kenny Britt against CB Jason McCourty. (From the Associated Press)
From Mycentraljersey.com
- ESPN's Brian Bennett is running down his most valuable players in the Big East (no RU players have been mentioned yet). Keith Sargeant has taken the idea to another level by ranking Rutgers MVP's for the upcoming season: #1-5, #6-10, #11-15, and #16-20.
- And one final look at how at how Rutgers stacked up against other programs in this year's NFL Draft.
From the Daily Targum:
- The guys at the Targum offer up 2 videos for your enjoyment: Storylines of the Spring and A look-ahead to summer camps.
- Sam Hellman writes that quarterback protection is not an issue for the Scarlet Knights with tackles Anthony Davis and Kevin Haslam bookending the line.
- And finally Mike Vorkunov writes about being the Scarlet Knight mascot for a day.
And from the way too premature department:
- Several media outlets are already projecting the 2010 NFL draft, including Fox Sports, who see RU's Anthony Davis as a first round selection (if he declares).
Personally, my five Most Valuable Players for RU next season are:
1. Anthony Davis: The anchor for a veteran line who will be asked to protect an unproven quarterback and open holes for the talented running backs that RU has, including....
2. Joe Martinek: From 4th on the depth chart to the possible starter, Martinek is the bruising, won't go down without a fight that Rutgers needs. He's a poor man's Brian Leonard, which the fans absolutely love.
3. Devon McCourty: You need to have a shut-down Corner, and McCourty is as close as they come for the Knights. He'll be asked to match-up against the best receivers that the Big East has to offer.
4. Ryan D'Imperio: The defensive leader, he's a ball-hawking LB who always seems to be in the right place at the right time. He's dealt with injury issues in the past, so let's hope he stays healthy for a full season.
5. San San Te: For a team with an unproven QB, you have to think they'll play their fair share of low-scoring, close games. An accurate kicker can be deadly, and here's hoping that Te has himself a good year after off-season surgery.
So what do you think? Who are your five MVP's for RU this season? Would you want to be the Scarlet Knight for a day? How do you think our players will perform this season in the NFL? Leave your comments and let us know....

MVPs
Good choices all around on the MVPs, but I’d replace San San with a combo of Dennis Campbell and Tim Brown.
On a team with an extremely inexperienced receiving corps, RU will rely on them heavily in hopes of matriculating the ball down the field. Offensively speaking, I think this year’s most glaring drop-off in talent will be amongst the WRs, but if these two step up then the team will have a well-balanced attack.

Oops.
Uhhh, scratch Dennis Campbell from that (don’t write posts while recovering from surgery on percocets, kids).
Though I think this makes Brown even more valuable – he’s the only WR with plenty of playing experience, so he really needs to step up big in hopes of replacing the Britt/Underwood tandem. I think I’m going to lay down now.

The VP
Unfortunately for Rutgers, the VP, Dennis Campbell was released from the team earlier this spring for undisclosed reasons.
Maybe even more of a point to emphasize your selection of Brown as one of the team’s MVPs.
