Getting the Point
Mike Rosario will have a new running mate in 2009
We interrupt our Most Anticipated Games of 2009 countdown to bring you some Rutgers related news.
Fred Hill and the Rutgers basketball team have signed PG James Beatty for the 2009-2010 basketball season. Beatty was the Knights top recruiting target for this year, and should make an immediate impact in the backcourt.
Beatty is a 6'2 PG, who will join Rutgers from Miami Dade Junior College after leading them to a 26-3 record and a #3 national ranking last season. He was rated among the Top 40 Junior College players after last season. Beatty will have 2 years of eligibility left after he reaches the Banks.
Beatty came to Rutgers because he feels that the team will be able to succeed right away:
"Every team that I've gone to, a year or two before I got there, their won-loss record wasn't as pretty as it was when I was there with the program," he said. "So I am very familiar with this type of situation. Rutgers was a young team last year and a lot of guys got experience. I'm coming in with experience. The players I've talked to are hungry and want to win. With that mentality, I think we have a good shot to win some games this year."
Beatty led the Miami Dade offense to a 91 point per game clip last season, and hopefully his up-tempo style will help envigorate a sputtering Rutgers offense. Hopefully with the maturation of Echenique and Rosario, Rutgers can become more competitive in the Big East, and give the top half of the league a run for their money.

This year might be Rutgers' chance to make an impact in the Big East
The team will probably improve every year Rosario remains on the team but I have a feeling this might be his last year.

Looking ahead
Ech is a bigger threat to leave early than Rosario. I don’t know that Rosario would get drafted after four years. If this PG really is as good as people say, then 10-11 is probably the big year…by then we we’ll have two guys who have the talent to be all-big east. Maybe we could even run an offensive play or two. That would fun.
